An anthology of (sometimes Jewish) resistance in times of genocide and fascism
Call to Action!
Tired of scrolling, watching a genocide on your phone not knowing what you can possibly do? Yeh, me to. So, it’s time to act. We as writers can affect the future, drive culture, and dream the dream of a better world.
As a Jewish child growing up in Long Island, I was told that the state of Israel was my haven, my birthright. What I was not told, and had to find out later on in life, was that there were people living there already, and that Israel was now committing atrocities to rid themselves of them
I’m not a politician, nor a policy maker, and certainly not a soldier, but I am a writer. So, I had an idea; let’s create an anthology of stories around the subject at hand. Now, Why an ‘Everything Bagel’? The ‘Bagel’ representing the culture of Judaism, from the shtetl to now, a culture of non-violence and pro-freedom for everyone that has spread through the world via the diaspora. The ‘Everything’ for the inclusivity, that everyone should be involved in this struggle and that we are not truly free until we are all free!
We will need a small handful of dedicated individuals for this passion project. The plan thus far is to open for submissions (for both Jewish and non-Jewish writers), select the best (including our own if we wish to contribute), lightly edit the chosen submissions, format everything and then ‘self-publish’ on Amazon via KDP. I only chose this route because it is the one I know, though nothing is set in stone and we can figure out the best method later on. Then, most or all proceeds will be donated to Palestinian people supporting the people in Palestine.
This is a volunteer gig, if we end up making a lot of money, we can institute profit sharing, again something that can be open for discussion, or if we can find funding we may be able to cover ‘operating costs’ beyond marketing. Thus, if you are interested, we are looking for volunteers for:
- Readers/Judges
- Editors
- Marketing
- Fundraising/Grant Writing/CrowdFunding
- Cover Artist
- Layout Artist
As for submissions, I was thinking of fiction and non-fiction stories that are broadly based on the topic of resistance and freedom in the face of genocide and fascism. For Example: I plan on writing a Far-future science fiction story based on the Jewish folklore of the Golem; where a group must entrust their safety with an AI or be eradicated by the powers that be, but the solution might be just as bad as the problem.
Thank you so much for considering being a part of this project. The world can be a cold dark place, but we can shine light that gives warmth and hope.
